Plates - Where Vegan Fine Dining Earns A Michelin Star

©Safia Shakarchi
If you’re looking for a dining experience that redefines plant-based cuisine, Plates in Shoreditch is the place to be. Recently crowned the UK’s first vegan restaurant to receive a Michelin star, this intimate 25-seat venue is setting a new standard for vegan fine dining. Founded by visionary chef Kirk Haworth and his sister Keeley, Plates combines technical innovation with a deep respect for nature, creating dishes that are as stunning as they are delicious.
Plates’ eight-course tasting menu, priced at £75 per person, is a masterclass in creativity and flavour. Michelin inspectors praised it for its “layers of flavour and texture that could convince the most committed of carnivores.” Standout dishes include barbecued maitake mushrooms with black bean mole and kimchi, mung and urad bean lasagne with miso and chive sauce, and black truffle and artichoke risotto with blood orange. For dessert, indulge in the raw cacao gateau with sour cherry and coconut blossom ice cream. A sweet finish that’s as innovative as the preceding courses.
Located just off Old Street, Plates offers a cosy yet refined dining space designed with earthy tones and natural materials. The intimate setting allows you to connect with the food on a deeper level while enjoying impeccable service from knowledgeable staff. For an extra treat, book a seat at the Chef’s Counter to watch the culinary artistry unfold.
Chef Kirk Haworth’s journey to Michelin stardom is as inspiring as his menu. After being diagnosed with Lyme disease and adopting a plant-based diet to manage his symptoms, Kirk used his classical training to push the boundaries of vegan cuisine. His mission? To prove that plant-based food can stand proudly at the highest levels of gastronomy.
Plates is a groundbreaking celebration of what plant-based dining can achieve. Whether you’re vegan or simply curious about this culinary revolution, securing a table at Plates promises a signature experience that will leave you rethinking everything you know about vegan food. Don’t wait, this is one reservation worth planning ahead for!
